Ichchapuram is located at a distance of 132 Kms from the district headquarters of Srikakulam between three towns Viz Kaviti, Kanchili, and Sompeta. Ichchapuram, also known as Ichapuram, has a close boundary with Orissa on the north and west sides; Kavita Mandal lies on the southern side of Ichchapuram and the Bay of Bengal on the east. Being near the border of Andhra Pradesh, the town is close to the commercial capital of Orissa, Berhampur. Ichchapuram or Ichapuram became a municipality with the inclusion of rattakannna, aminsahebpeta, purushothapuram panchayats in 1986 and it is the Ichchapuram assembly constituency headquarters. Plans are currently in motion to make this area a replica of Vizag’s prestigious Kailash Giri, so Ichchapuram was coined as a Mini Kailash Giri, which was signed during the time of Chiranjeevi who signed during the Tourism Minister in the time of Congress's reign.

Back in the day, Ichchapuram was called, Swechapuram during the time of Muslim rule, this town has its own historical story. The Goddess of Ichapuram village was Sri Swechchavati Ammavaru so our ancestors decided to name this village as Swechchapuram. Gradually over time, this has changed to Ichchapuram through pronunciation. This Pearl Konda or Perla Hill which is a muslim tomb present on the hilltop, celebrates a festival every year called “Peerlotsava” wherein people belonging to both the Hindu and Muslim community participate. There is no other place like this anywhere as it is the only place where both Muslims and Hindus worship God or Allaha at the same time.
