Jai Krishna

Amadalavalasa town is the main center of the district and an important state assembly constituency in Srikakulam district. According to the 2011 census, the urban population is 37,852. The total population of the zone is 80,093, of whom only 47% live in urban areas and the rest 43% is of rural population. The urban literacy rate is 76 per cent, while in rural areas it is only 64 per cent. Although agriculture is the main occupation of the people here, a lot of people migrated to cities in search of work and working as daily labourers. Although the rulers have been promising fresh water for generations, in reality they have to cry for drinking water. As such the area is not desert and it is surrounded by rivers like Nagavali, Vansadhara and Gosthani, but still the water was not available to them. The work of fitting a regulator to the Narayanpur Barrage in the Bhoorja Zone and modernizing was delayed for decades. The people of 58 villages of Amadalavalasa have been fighting for the last few years for the construction of a bridge over the port of Balasala as the crossing the river becomes a big challenge for them whenever it floods. Their demands are to protect the flooded lands in the Serbu Rji Zone, build a bridge over the Nagavali River near Pendurthi and provide drinking water to the area. The people here are also demanding the construction of a bridge near the Amadalavalasa railway station and the reopening of the closed cooperative farmer's sugar factory. Thousands of workers were employed in this factory. Farmers here are angry that the government has handed over the factory rights to the Andhra Pradesh Industrial and Infrastructure Corporation (APICC).
