Amadalavalasa is a town with a name rooted deeply in its past - often interpreted as the town of castor oil. In ancient times, this place was known as Herandapalli, a Sanskrit term where Heranda means castor oil. Interestingly, despite this strong linguistic connection, castor plants are not grown here today, making the name a reminder of traditions that no longer exist.
Archaeological studies indicate that Amadalavalasa has been inhabited since the Iron Age. Evidence of early historic human activity has been discovered on the nearby Sangamayya Konda hills that were once active centers of Buddhist and Jain tradition, showing that ancient communities lived, worked, and moved through this region long before modern settlements took shape.
