The Story of Polaki

Polaki is bounded on the south by the Gara zone, on the west by the Narasannapeta zone, on the south by the Kotabommali zone and on the north by the Jalumuru zone. Polaki is at 28 km distance from the nearest town, Srikakulam. Telugu is the local language here. The population of Polaki zone is 65,734 people living in 15,508 households spread over a total of 118 villages and 31 panchayats. Males constitute 32,880 and females 32,854. Male literacy is 78.97%, compared to females 61.12%. According to the 2011 Indian Census, the village has 1837 houses and a population of 7089 spread over 1004 hectares. The number of males in the village is 3486 and the number of females is 3603. The number of scheduled castes is 371 while the number of scheduled tribes is 32. Polaki zone has been selected as an ideal panchayat by the Andhra Pradesh state government.

The History of Polaki

Polanki is the ancient name of the village of Polaki. This is because the village had two culverts, Tadidamu and Ididamu. Their composition is similar to that of Polanki, which changed its name over time and became Polaki. Durga Bhavani Temple is the famous temple in Polaki that is located near the Panchayat Office. Polaki has primary schools, secondary schools, junior colleges and degree colleges.The nearest engineering, medical, management and polytechnic are located in Srikakulam. The Durga Bhavani Jatara is held for 5 days in February every year at this temple and devotees all over India reach here to offer prayers. Major crops grown here are rice, sugarcane and chillies.
