Pathapatnam is the most important constituency in Srikakulam district in Andhra Pradesh sharing most of its boundaries with Parlakhemundi in Odisha. The divisional headquarters is at Palakonda, 60 km away. The district headquarters is located at a distance of 90 km from Srikakulam. When Odisha was in Madras provenance control, Mahendratanaya waters are said to be half Andhra and half Odisha but later Odisha occupied fully. If the present government takes action to utilise the Mahendratanaya waters fully, then it can help the farmers in Pathapatnam to do irrigation. Mahendra waters stopped due to Dambapur Dam.
