The Tekkali region was ruled by King Ganapati Padmanabhadev of Paralakhemundi from 1816 to 1832. His sons divided the kingdom into two and Tekkali was ruled by Govindanath Dev Nandi Gam and Krishna Chandra Dev. Dara adopted the village of Tekkali under cattle saffron when Govinda Nath Dev, the ruler of Tekkali, married his daughter. Tikli means cattle basket basket in Odia, hence the name Tikli. Over time it transformed into Tekkali. Tekkali is a zone in Srikakulam district in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. Tekkali is the district headquarters, about 50 km north of Srikakulam. Former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh the late NT Rama Rao contested from this constituency and won and was elected to the State Legislative Assembly. It is one of the 3 divisions in the district, which is the division center, and the legislative constituency. According to the 2011 census the total population of Tekkali is 28631. Telineelapuram village is located in the Tekkali zone, 65 km from Srikakulam, while Telukunchi village is located in the Ichapuram zone, 115 km from the district headquarters. Both villages are home to Siberian migrants. Nature lovers are fascinated to see the process by which birds feed their young on trees every winter. Every year in September more than 3,000 pelicans and painted storks migrate to these villages from Siberia and stay here until March. The process, which has been going on for 15 years, initially involved more than 10,000 birds. But now their number has dropped to 3000. The reason for this is the indiscriminate digging of ponds under the work food scheme. As a result, ponds are becoming extinct and their numbers are steadily declining, threatening the food security of birds. In addition, thermal power plant pollution has also reduced the number of birds. Cultivation of Madanagopal Sagaram can solve the problem of cultivation. The construction of the concept harbor had not been completed for decades. Fisheries are also declining due to pollution caused by ports. Appropriate measures are needed before pollution poses a threat to food security.
