The Story of Ponduru

Ponduru is a zone in Srikakulam district in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. Ponduru is located at a distance of 20 km from Srikakulam and touches the borders with Vizianagaram. According to the 2011 census, the total population of Pondicherry is 73,890, of whom 37,197 are males and 36,693 are females. It is located 12 km west of Srikakulam. The Ponduru Zone is bounded on the south by the Echerla Zone, on the north by the Amadalavalasa Zone, on the east by the Srikakulam Zone and on the west by the Gangavarisigadam Zone. There are 39 villages and 29 panchayats. It is 39 meters high.

The History of Ponduru

Ponduru is famous for its handloom industry. The main occupation of the people here is handloom. The cotton is cleaned with a toothpick and threaded using spinners. Ponduru Khaddar is famous for its handicrafts. Ponduru is one of the favorite khadi making areas in India. Khaddar fabrics are woven on looms using these threads. Ponduru Khaddar is reminiscent of the Indian independence movement. Mahatma Gandhi was also a fan of Ponduru Khaddar. Ponduru Khadi is famous for its khadi wearers all over the country. The Devanga, Pattushali and Nagavamsam castes are important in this region. The cotton is cleaned and the thread is twisted with a loom. In addition to looms, weavers mix other types of looms based on machinery and looms. Exports to countries such as the United States and Sweden also took place from Ponduru.
