The Story of Vangara

Vangara is located in the Srikakulam district and. It is 28 km from the nearest town, Rajam. According to the 2011 census, Vangara has a total population of 47,879, of whom 24,031 are males and 23,848 are females. Vangara zone is bounded on the west by Balijipeta zone, on the north by Veeraghattam zone, on the south by Therlam zone and on the east by Palakonda zone. Rajam, Bobbili, Parvathipuram, and Amadalavalasa are the nearest cities. Vangara has 37 villages and 27 panchayats. Vangara is located at an elevation of 132m. VRR Peta is a small village and Koppara is a large village.

The History of Vangara

This place is on the border of Srikakulam district and Vijayanagaram district. Madduvalasa reservoir project is one of the oldest irrigation projects in the Srikakulam district. Madduvalasa Dam was built in 1967, the project was named after Gorle Sriramulu Naidu irrigation project. The project is in Madduvalasa village in Vangara mandal and its catchment area is spread over in both Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts. The prime source of water for the reservoir is Vegavathi and Suvarnamukhi rivers. Present government has to take action in repairing this dam and convert this place to be the best tourist destination in Srikakulam.

About Us

Madduvalasa Reservoir in Vangara has been built on the Vegavati and Suvarnamukhi rivers, subsidiaries of the Nagavali River at Madduvalasa. It was commissioned in 1977 and completed in 2002. About 23,000 acres (9,300 ha) of land was brought under cultivation with the water.
